A former Chrysler engineer has posted a five-part series on different aspects of Chrysler’s quality program of the 1980s—the parts he was personally involved in. Each part is around five minutes long, and feature the supporting Chrysler instructional materials. These are the videos, in order:
1: Introduction: building up quality to meet or beat the Japanese in the 1980s; the Mopar DOE (Design Of Experiments) setup, an outgrowth of Dr. Taguchi’s work
2: SPC (Statistical Process Control), supplier surveys, and calculus: Measuring and finding issues
3: Even the boxes mattered! Getting parts to the car plants and the Mopar guidebook
4: At the Newark factory! Followed by a brief history of the plant
5: Taking a lap of America for quality after production starts
Those interested in Chrysler plant operations in the 1950s and 1960s may be interested in this brief video on what they needed in their car plants during these times—also around five minutes long.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest, most comprehensive Mopar site in 1994 as he pursued a career in organizational research and change. After a chemo-induced break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales.
David Zatz has around 30 years of experience in covering Chrysler/Mopar news and history, and most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the Chrysler marque.
