Dodge Charger SRT Daytona EV Concept

The federal government is pushing automakers towards an electric future, but the regulations both punish and reward – we just never hear about the rewards – issued as credits – which can actually reduce future and past CAFE fines. As a result, the 2024 Dodge Charger EV could actually help the company save money on fines from the 2021-2023 model years.

CAFE Fines And Credits Explained

When an automaker fails to reach the goals of the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) program, the automaker is fined. FCA was fined $77 million for failing to meet CAFE requirements for the 2016 model year and $79.4 million for 2017, followed by a fine of $235.5 million for coming up short for the 2018 and 2019 model years.

Durango deals hit $3,250—except on hi-po lines

2023 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Lineup

Dodge is discounting Durangos, which are still available with a gasoline-driven V6 and Hemi V8 engines. The Dodge web site shows two Durango offers, either $3,250 in cash back or a $419/month three-year lease ($5,059 due up front and not including tax).

The cash back is a trifle deceptive, since it includes $750 from Chrysler Capital, which suggests that if you pay cash or get a credit union loan, it won’t apply; but the $2,500 portion is a national cash rebate.

Meet the 2023 Dodge Journey

2023 Dodge Journey (Trumpchi) in Mexico

It’s the 2023 Dodge Journey, but you can’t buy it in the United States.

There is very little information available on Dodge’s web site. The Stellantis North America media site doesn’t mention it at all. But the 2023 Dodge Journey is on sale in Mexico, with over a thousand sales reported in March. There are three trim levels, SXT, Sport, and GT; the Sport raises the price to MX$667,900 and the GT to over MX$700,000. It’s not a new story, really—the ’23 follows a 2022 model.

Brampton is not “at risk,” according to insider, officials

Brampton - final Dodge Demon

According to a source inside Brampton, Stellantis officials recently visited the plant and told workers that Stellantis was happy with its work—and had big plans for its future. They confirmed that the plant would have a major transformation to make electric cars on a new, flexible platform.

Last year, Stellantis announced that it would be spending nearly US$3 billion to upgrade the Windsor and Brampton plants. A major battery factory, a joint venture with LG, is being placed in Windsor to support the Canadian factories, both of which are in Ontario. The company could not commit to the number of shifts, but previously announced that it expected to run three shifts. There was some concern expressed over wage growth and the need for competitive costs.
