A third Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat has entered the race to the 9-second quarter mile range and by running consistent 10.0s in the summer heat, this supercharged SUV only needs a cool night to get that 9-second slip. Today, we bring you a look at the new quickest Durango Hellcat in the world, owned by Tina Boggess while being built Scott Boegler of American Muscle Performance of Pompano Beach, Florida.
The 10-Oh Durango
This Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat shown here is owned and daily driven by Tina Boggess, and it is a true daily driver. Boggess pointed out that she takes her kids to school every day in this Durango, but in the video, it is driven by Scott Boegler of American Muscle Performance. American Muscle Performance handled the build on this wicked “mom car”, installing a variety of upgrades that lead to big power gains without diminished drivability.
The team started under the hood, porting the blower snout, and adding a 2.65 upper pulley, a 10% lower pulley, a 108-millimeter throttle body, a JLT cold air intake, FIC 1200 fuel injectors and a JMS boost-a-pump, along with NGK spark plugs. This Durango has a full exhaust system, but it does have an off-road mid-pipe setup. The build was tuned by Brent Hughes of DTP Performance to make peak power on VP Fuels X98 ethanol.
Finally, this Durango Hellcat is riding on Mickey Thompson drag radials on all four corners. Boegler pointed out that on these runs, they were pushing a heavy vehicle to its limits and that all parties involved were aware of the possible consequences of making and using this kind of power. Fortunately, the Dodge SUV not only handled the extra power, but it reset the world record for the quickest Durango SRT Hellcat in the quarter mile.
The New Record
Last Friday, Boegler headed to Palm Beach International Raceway to test the real world results of the build on Boggess’ Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. It was hot and humid, with density altitude varying between 2,025 and 2,200 feet, so the conditions were far from ideal for making big, supercharged power.
On the first round down the track, Boegler turned a 10.162 at 135.41 miles per hour, officially claiming the record for the world’s quickest Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat which previously stood at 10.27. On the next two runs, Boegler ran a 10.083 and 10.058, but he saved his best for last.
On his final run of the night, the supercharged Durango pulled a 1.473 60-foot time, an 8th mile time of 6.418 at 108.74 miles per hour and a quarter mile time of 10.032 at 135.74 miles per hour (the slip at the top of this piece). You can watch that record run in the video below.
The Race to 9s
Considering the air conditions for these 10.0 runs, this Dodge Durango owned by Tina Boggess, driven by Scott Boeger and built by American Muscle Performance seems like the most likely to be the first into the 9s. Had the air been slightly better at PBIR last Friday, the odds are good that Boegler would have gotten into the 9s, but that didn’t happen. Fortunately, Boegler plans to hit the track later this week with the hopes of getting that 9-second slip.
Prior to this Durango running 10.0s, the race to the 9-second range among Durango Hellcats was a two-Dodge battle between vehicles built by Ripatuned and Satera Tuning. Satera was the first into the 10s and the first to run mid-10s while Ripatuned was the first to get down into the lower 10s, running the aforementioned 10.27. We know that both Ripatuned and Satera Tuning were continuing to tune their respective Durango Hellcats with the hopes of getting into the 9s, but right now, Scott Boegler and the American Muscle Performance-built SUV is only a gentle tailwind away from being the first.
