Durango, 1500 Classic to continue; 2022 orders, production late for some Mopars

If you want to order a 2022 Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Gladiator, or Wrangler, according to Donlen, you will have to wait until October 6. What’s more, 2022 production will start later than in most years, being pushed back to November—in the case of the Wrangler, to December.

The Ram 1500 “DT,” which accounts for all the upper-level trims, has reportedly already shifted to 2022 model-year production; but the older Ram 1500 Classic is slated to switch over in November, as well. On the lighter side, the Ram 1500 Classic and the Dodge Durango will both have a 2022 model year. There was some question about how long the current Durango, whose main advantage over the Grand Cherokee is its massive towing capacity, would continue to be built. That question remains, but model-year 2022 is a given now.

Changeover for heavy duty Rams, chassis cabs, and commercial vans is still showing as “to be determined.” Minivan buyers can already order 2022 models, with production starting in early October, if they can get the parts; minivans may have been the hardest-hit Mopars with regard to chip and parts shortages.

Muscle car lovers, like Jeep buyers, will be able to order their 2022 cars in October, with the 300, Charger, and Challenger all having the same estimated order date; production of the new models will start in December. Changes to the 2022s are fairly minimal for the most part.

The 2022 Jeep Compass will be delayed a little, with early-October startup. The new 2022 Wagoneer is already in production.
