In the never-ending saga of “do we have chips?,” the latest news is Jeep idling the Cherokee and Compass plants in the US and Mexico, respectively, during the week of July 5; but Pacificas will roll off the line again, for a while.
Chip-maker TMSC has said that it will prioritize the two As, Apple and automakers, as much as it can. Apple is a major customer, and automakers likely have the largest economic impact of the company’s other customers. Automakers pull from a fairly wide variety of semiconductor companies around the world, using both state of the art and older but well-proven components.
