The Jeep Wagoneer swept its categories in the Texas Truck Rodeo, winning the top prize (SUV of Texas) as well as the Full-Size Luxury SUV and Full-Size SUV categories.
Perennial winner Ram 1500 took Full-Size Pickup Truck, while Ram 2500 Power Wagon walked off with Heavy Duty Pickup Truck. The Ram TRX nabbed both Luxury and Off-Road awards, and the Hellcat was named best powertrain.
Jeep also won Midsized SUV (Grand Cherokee L) and Green Vehicle (Wrangler 4xe); the Best Infotainment System was Uconnect 5. However, the new Toyota Tundra was the surprise winner of the overall Truck of Texas award (the two overall awards are Truck of Texas, won by Ram for the past few years, and SUV of Texas, won by Wagoneer this year).
David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest, most comprehensive Mopar site in 1994 as he pursued a career in organizational research and change. After a chemo-induced break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales.
David Zatz has around 30 years of experience in covering Chrysler/Mopar news and history, and most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the Chrysler marque.
