Vauxhall was owned by General Motors for decades, selling a lineup of Opels and sometimes Chevrolets under their own badge. Nobody seemed to complain about the arrangement then, but with Stellantis in charge, some people are having a problem with it now.
When Vauxhall started running TV ads concluding with the words “British brand since 1903,” four people or companies complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which keeps advertising somewhat honest in Britain. The ASA agreed with Stellantis that, since the Vauxhall brand was only ever used in Britain and Ireland, and since production was maintained in Britain, it is indeed British.
The irony in the ads is that the Vauxhall Corsa is not made in the UK; but it is only sold there, and in Northern Ireland, and Vauxhall still has offices and manufacturing in the country. (Story via Car Dealer Magazine)
