The Dodge Charger SRT Ghoul isn’t a Real Thing

Over the past few weeks, social media groups have once again been flooded with nonsense news stories about the pending arrival of the Dodge Charger Ghoul. This baseless story claims that the end of the current generation Dodge Charger will feature a limited production package which will be powered by the 1,000-horsepower Hellephant crate engine. The same clickbait site has shared this story three years in a row, each year making little tweaks to freshen up the nonsense, leading YouTubers to publicize the story. However, like most “news” that comes from YouTubers, it isn’t real.

2020 Dodge Charger

The most recent iteration of the story claims that the 2022 Dodge Charger Ghoul will feature the 1,000-horsepower Hellephant Hemi mated to an Allison transmission. There are two problems with that claim which make it clear to most people that this story isn’t true. First, the Hellephant is not federal emission-compliant and I confirmed that with the folks from Mopar when it originally went on sale. Second, Allison makes transmissions for medium and heavy duty trucks and their only involvement in the consumer market is in General Motors pickups. If Dodge was going to use a heavy duty truck transmission in a car, it would likely be the unit from the industry-leading Ram 3500, not some junk from GM.

Unfortunately, the clickbait site that keeps regurgitating this story went so far as to include a quote from “a company representative” for this 2021 piece, so I reached out to Dodge to see if there was any official word from the company. The reply from an actual company spokesperson was as clear as can be.

“[I] can assure you it’s an April Fool’s joke.”

So there you have it. The Ghoul is not a real thing, just like it wasn’t a real thing when the outlet posted the story in 2019 and 2020. With any luck, this will help make that moronic story go away while also leading enthusiasts to think twice about where they get their information. As to not further promote the bad information, we have not included images of the “Ghoul”, which is why we have a picture of a Charger Hellcat Daytona – a high performance Mopar that does exist. Meanwhile, the clickbait site and stories continue to make April fools of some people.
