Million-Ram recall for misaligned strikers

Ram sold around 1.3 million pickups whose tailgate strikers may have been misaligned, causing them to refuse to latch properly—so the tailgate could pop open at random.

The company had over 700 warranty claims related to the issue, but so far no crashes or injuries have been reported. The solution is simple and parts-free: aligning the striker properly.

Affected trucks were made from 2018 through 2022, when the factory fixed the tooling. While 1.3 million trucks are being recalled, relatively few—around 1%—are expected to need work. This issue affects model years 2019 through 2022.

The recall is coded 22V-904. It affects:

  • Around 146,000 Ram 3500s, made June 13, 2019 through June 1, 2022
  • Around 394,000 Ram 2500s, made May 18, 2018 through June 1, 2022
  • Around 700,000 Ram 1500s, made February 20, 2018 through July 10, 2022
