Mopar “charged” into the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show with three concepts and hundreds of factory-backed parts and accessories.
The show opens tomorrow and runs through November 4. However, Mopar, now led by Mark Bosanac, released some information today—with more to come.
Jeep CJ Surge Concept
The Jeep CJ Surge electromod was developed to explore battery-electric vehicle (BEV) parts kits, with the goal of providing a retromod kit in the future.
The CJ Surge is a true 4×4 with a 400-volt, 200-kW electric drive module mounting to the frame. Torque runs through a two-speed Jeep transfer case with selectable gearing, while the battery modules are enclosed in a shell in the rear of the cabin. The charge port is behind the driver-side door opening.
The body rides on 35-inch B.F. Goodrich all-terrain tires mounted to 18×9 Black Rhino solid wheels, with the help of a 2-inch lift kit and oversized fender flares. Front and rear Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) Dana 44 Crate axles help the CJ Surge concept to crawl over rocks and boulders.
Production JPP/Mopar parts include a JPP bumper kit with a JPP winch, and JPP Rubicon skid and front-bumper plates. Rock rails are a concept part.
The body is done in Copper Canyon body and Surf Blue Surge graphics, with a windshield cropped by two inches; inside, the front seats have concept risers. The center console, from a Wrangler JK, has a rotary shifter. Instrument panel gauges, including the charge indicator, are from Mopar. The cockpit is surrounded by a roll cage with a bikini top for shade.
Ram 1500 TRX Gold Shot Concept
Built upon the 702-horsepower Ram 1500 TRX, the Satin Bitter Yellow/Satin Black TRX Gold Shot brings proven high-speed durability to arrive at off-road motorcross trails in record time.
Vintage Bronze 18-by-9.5-inch Black Rhino Chamber wheels ride on 37-inch Goodrich tires. A Mopar step bed provides easy access to a pair of motorcycles in the bed; it lowers for easy access and retracts into storage. Behind the cab, a RamBar has concept 14-inch TYRI rectangular LED lights, generating 4,300 lumens of light. The bed surface is protected by a Mopar spray-in textured bedliner.
Custom metal skid plates with laser-etched Mopar lettering protect the underside; the front skid plate increases the approach angle by 2.3 degrees, up to 32.5 degrees. Mopar rock rails protect the side sills. 5-inch black Mopar exhaust tips round out the exterior.
The interior of the TRX Gold Shot is little changed from the production TRX except for Alaska Gold stitching and accents and changes to the seat coverings; in addition, the Ram 1500 Tradesman’s vinyl floor makes interior cleaning easier.
Ram 1500 Backcountry X Concept
The Ram 1500 Backcountry X concept builds upon the RamBox system with custom-designed RamPack and RamRack features that increase secure storage space. Sitting above the standard RamBox on each bed side, RamPack opens via a single carbon-fiber panel and add up to 12.3 cubic feet of storage. Rectangular shelves run the full length of the vast compartments, with tie-down loops providing mounting locations. The Mopar RamBox vertical bin dividers keep stored gear organized.
The RamRack on the Ram 1500 Backcountry X builds on the telescoping storage-rack system shown on the 2021 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman concept. It uses additional Thule cross rails. In this case, the RamRack holds 2-inch TYRI LED lights and a third brake light.
A custom Mopar RamGate task-bench tailgate insert has conversion charts and an angle finder with an array of Rockler woodworking hardware.
The Ram 1500 Backcountry X concept rides on a Mopar 2-inch lift kit with FOX shocks, matte-black 20-by-9-inch Fuel Heater wheels and 37-inch BFGoodrich tires. The two-tone Matte Iced Silver Titanium and matte-black exterior stands out with contrasting anodized orange bodyside stripes and accents on the hood, tow hooks (front and rear) and grille badge. Up front, a Mopar tubular grille guard has four Mopar 5-inch LED off-road lights.
Black-painted Mopar tube steps provide easy entry and exit from the elevated cabin. A Mopar rear bed step uses an articulating arm that lowers down for easy access to the truck bed and retracts to storage.
Between the front seats, a deployable work surface with an integrated measuring system slides out from the soft center armrest and provides 12 by 14 inches of extra workspace. A concept RamVac on-board vacuum makes cleaning the cabin area easy.
