Around a quarter million Rams have been recalled because pressure and heat can force transmission fluid out of the dipstick, where it can catch fire. This recall applies to certain 2020-23 Ram 2500 and 2020-22 Ram 3500 trucks—all of them with the 68RFE automatic transmission and Cummins diesel engine.
Around 50,000 Ram 3500s made from September 18, 2019 to November 4, 2022 and around 200,000 Ram 2500s made from September 4, 2019 to November 4, 2022 are affected.
The check engine light may illuminate first.
Ram engineers are still apparently trying to figure out what to do about the problem, but has started the recall process so when a solution is found, it will be dealt with quickly.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest, most comprehensive Mopar site in 1994 as he pursued a career in organizational research and change. After a chemo-induced break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales.
David Zatz has around 30 years of experience in covering Chrysler/Mopar news and history, and most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the Chrysler marque.
