The 2023 Jeep Compass has a new version of the GME 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, finally providing the torque and horsepower one would expect; the sole transmission is an eight-speed, dubbed 8F30, likely supplied by Hyundai. The Compass Limited lists for $35,495; all Compass trims now have standard all wheel drive.
The turbo engine produces 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet, a major improvement over the old 2.4; its torque band is wider, as well, providing more torque at lower revs. Fuel economy, revealed at last, is 24 city, 32 highway. This is a full 2 mpg better than the weaker 2022 models, a major improvement given the added power. The turbo engine requires regular octane fuel.
The all wheel drive system disengages when not needed to improve gas mileage; an Active Drive Low system provides a 20:1 crawl ratio in the Trailhawk, which also gets a rock mode and hill descent control. The Compass has better handling than in 2022, with a larger rear stabilizer bar.
New technologies for 2023 include an optional 10.25-inch frameless full-color digital cluster; a standard 10.1-inch digital infotainment touchscreen; Uconnect 5 with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; and an optional wireless charging pad and Alpine nine-speaker audio system.
