2025 Dodge, Ram, and Jeep police cars (updated)

The Stellantis fleet site has been updated with the 2025 police cars, with one notable exception.

The 2025 WD Durango Pursuit, which entered production on August 23, is largely a carryover from 2024 with the Pentastar and 5.7 engines. V8 models are limited to the number of 5.7 engines that were stored when V8 engines were discontinued at Saltillo this past March; once the Hemi supply is depleted, we can reasonably expect the Hurricane to fill its shoes.

Production of the WD Durango is now expected to last through the 2026 model year, if not into the 2027 model year. The union contract called for the 2027 Durango to be moved to the STLA platform and assembled at the same factory. Allegedly, according to one analyst and a rumor, the Durango is moving to Canada to be made alongside the Chargers at Windsor; Stellantis has neither confirmed nor denied this.

The 2025 Durango Pursuit is available in 11 colors, retains the fleet-only 5 year/100,000 mile factory warranty, and can only be ordered by fleet customers with an authorization number.

Accompanying the Durango is the Jeep Wagoneer L SSV (Special Service Vehicle), which has the Hurricane, but is designed for administrative applications rather than police pursuit purposes. It’s marketed to compete with the Suburban and Expedition.

The Ram 1500 SSV is back, and is also powered by the Hurricane turbo six. Dodge still does not provide a Pursuit-Rated pickup, which is likely a sensible choice based on the performance of competing “pursuit” pickups. The Ram 2500/3500 SSV models also return, with the 6.4 ESG or the Cummins diesel. The ESG engine remains in production.

Finally, a new Charger Pursuit has been expected for some time. It could be a hot seller for police agencies, as the Charger has been the only police sedan available in North America since Chevy killed off the Holden Caprice in 2017, and Ford put the Taurus Interceptor in the corporate crusher after a brief run of 2019 models in fall of 2018. However, no Charger or Hurricane-powered Durango was available for the Michigan State Police vehicle evaluations on September 18th. Perhaps they will be ready for California’s tests next month? Or perhaps not—it takes months, at the last, to work out all the aftermarket support, body strengthening, heavy-duty cooling, and such for a good police car.
