Amazon is already buying the new Ram ProMaster EV, according to an article in Automotive News. The electric version of the commercial van, originally based on a Fiat but extensively redesigned to have a higher capacity, more creature comforts, and sturdier suspension, has a range of around 162 miles in the city. That is more than enough for typical Amazon delivery runs.
Electric vans are not that much more expensive than gasoline versions considering that delivery vans often get single-digit gas mileage while in use, and electric vans require far less maintenance (including fewer brake pads due to regenerative braking).
In Canada, the new Dodge Charger Daytona EV will be a 2024 model starting at $57,790 including a $2,700 destination charge. Moving to the Scat Pack will raise the price to $89,790. Canadian dollars are now worth around three quarters of their American counterparts; the R/T model ends up being around $42,000 in U.S. dollars.
The R/T includes the Stage 1 upgrade installed at the factory for a total output of 496 hp and 404 lb-ft. The Scat Pack, capable of running 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds, has 670 hp and 627 lb-ft with the Stage 2 upgrade included in the price.
Buyers can opt for a 48-amp Level 2 home charger or credits on the Free2move charging network. Production is to begin in summer 2024, with four-door versions, whose price is still unknown, starting in mid-2025. The gasoline versions will start production in mid-to-late 2025. All Chargers are to be made in Windsor, Ontario.
