Jeep released the first promotional video for the upcoming Wagoneer S battery electric vehicle. The video is titled “Surpass Yourself”, it is just under two minutes long and we wouldnt called it an ad, because it doesn’t tell us enough, but we also wouldn’t call it a teaser video below is tells us too much. This video is chock full of bits of information on the Jeep Wagoneer S that will debut at the end of this month, along with some pretty interesting clips of the first all-electric Jeep in action.
During the video, we learn that the Jeep Wagoneer S will sprint from a stop to 60 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds using the “rollout method” that was popularized by Tesla. We also learn that the electric Jeep will have 600 horsepower, 617 lb-ft of torque, an estimated range of at least 300 miles on a single charge and the ability to still shine off-road. Those are all things that you would expect to see from a company introducing a new BEV.
What we didn’t expect to see was a direct, head-to-head comparison between the Jeep Wagoneer S and the Tesla Model Y. Tesla is obviously the world’s bestselling electric brand (1.81m in 2023) and the Model Y is the bestselling vehicle in their lineup (1.23m in 2023), thanks largely to the success of the electric crossover in China. Most automakers would shy away from targeting the bestselling EV in the world with their first ever EV, but to be the best, you have to beat the best, and based on the numbers, it looks like the Jeep Wagoneer S is in good shape to at least challenge the Model Y.
The Tesla Model Y Performance offers 456 horsepower and 497 lb-ft of torque, leading to a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds using the rollout method and an official range of 279 miles. Those numbers give the Jeep a huge advantage in raw power and low end acceleration as well as range, and we imagine that the gigantic difference in power will make the Wagoneer S even quicker than the Model Y in a longer race (like a quarter mile). We would also guess that the Jeep is considerably better in off-road situations than the Tesla.
What is even more surprising is that this first Jeep Wagoneer S promotional video compares the brand’s first BEV to the mighty Trackhawk – which is motivated by the supercharged Hellcat Hemi. The Trackhawk used to be the brand’s quickest SUV with an official 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds, but with the Wagoneer S getting to 60 in 3.4, it appears as though the Trackhawk will become the second-quickest Jeep of all time once the BEV debuts later this month.
Now, we should point out that everything shown and listed in the promo video below is stated as applying to a preproduction model. With that in mind, there is a possibility that the actual numbers for the production model could be different, but if they are different, I would expect them to be better for the real deal. Bragging that the preproduction model has 600 horsepower, 617 lb-ft of torque, the ability to hit 60 in 3.4 seconds and over 300 miles of range wouldn’t make any sense if the production model was less powerful, slower or had less range, so we fully expect that the production version will match all of the numbers in this video – if if doesn’t exceed them.
As a reminder, the Jeep Wagoneer S will make its grand debut on May 30th in New York City, and you will find all of the official information here on Stellpower.
