Sister publication Motales delved into Stellantis’ options for bringing a V8 back to the Ram 1500 and Dodge Charger. Each carries its own risks, costs, and benefits; some (making the “truck 6.4” optional on Ram 1500) are clearly easier and cheaper than others (using the Ferrari twin-turbo V8), and there’s at least one un-obvious choice.
The major choices considered by Motales include bringing back the 5.7 Eagle V8 and/or the SRT version of the 6.4 (392); the Ferrari V8 currently used by Maserati; the surprising Pentastar V8, which was planned but never brought to market; and buying from competitors. One of these competitors stands out as being most likely to provide a good price.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest, most comprehensive Mopar site in 1994 as he pursued a career in organizational research and change. After a chemo-induced break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales.
David Zatz has around 30 years of experience in covering Chrysler/Mopar news and history, and most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the Chrysler marque.
