New Dodge Charger EV Platform Information Hints at 2-Second 0-60 Times

Earlier today, Stellantis issued a press release on the STLA Large vehicle platform that is to underpin the Dodge Charger Daytona, Jeep Wagoneer S, and other vehicles. Their objective was to highlight the versatility of this platform, which handles both gasoline and battery electric vehicles (BEV), but what caught our attention was a performance figure of 0 to 62 miles per hour in the 2-second range. (We are discussing 0-60 times here because that is familiar to Americans, and if a car can get from 0 to 62 miles per hour in the 2-second range, it will get to 60 miles per hour in the 2-second range.)

The press release doesn’t state outright that the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona BEV will sprint from a stop to 62 miles per hour in the 2-second range, but it states that the platform can do so. The first two vehicles known to be on the STLA Large platform are the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer S and the upcoming Dodge Charger. The company has stated that the Wagoneer S will get from a stop to 60 in 3.5 seconds, so we can expect that  something smaller and lighter will get to 60 in the 2-second range. The 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona is smaller and lighter than the Wagoneer S, so this 2-second 0-62 time could refer to the upcoming Charger.

This press release also points out that the Dodge and Jeep models on the STLA Large platform will eventually be joined by models from Chrysler, Alfa Romeo and Maserati, so it might be one of those brands to offer a 0-62 time in the 2-second range. Seeing as how the Charger has generally been quicker than anything from Alfa or Maserati, we have our fingers crossed that the all-electric Dodge Charger coming later this year is capable of 0-60 times in the 2-second range – as that would put it among the quickest of the EVs and the quickest production cars on the road.

The flexibility includes the unibody platform’s propulsion systems. STLA Large is designed and engineered as a native BEV platform with the option of 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures. Three-in-one electric drive modules (EDMs) that incorporate the motor, power inverter and gear reduction can be configured in front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts. …

Based on specific vehicle objectives, STLA Large accepts drivetrain enhancements such as limited slip differentials or wheel end disconnects that can improve performance or reduce mechanical drag to improve efficiency and range. Overall, the STLA Large platform has the potential to carry extreme power that will outperform any of the existing Hellcat V-8s.

In addition to the information on the 0-62 times, the press release stated that the STLA Large platform is capable of 500 miles of range and can charge at the rate of 4.5 kWh per minute (presumably with the 800-volt system). Of course, the platform supports rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles, but it can also be used for front-drive models. Right now, the company plans to introduced a total of eight vehicles globally with this STLA Large architecture between now and 2026.
