Ram has confirmed that the Ram 1500 Classic will drop out of production later this year, moving the plant from two general assembly shifts to one. However, some operations in the plant will remain on two shifts to support the Jeep Wagoneer family, which is continuing at the plant.
The 1500 Classic has supplied the cheapest full-sized Ram pickups since the dawn of the “DT” body. The company’s statement notes that the 2025 Ram 1500 Tradesman has “incredible value and content” including an updated electrical architecture aimed at commercial fleet upgrades; and the optional Hurricane engines provide more power with better economy than the 1500 Classic’s optional V8 did.
The Wagoneer is slated to be updated in 2025 as it moves to the new STLA Frame platform. An electric version and gasoline refresh will be launched in 2027, according to a timeline given to the UAW in 2023.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest, most comprehensive Mopar site in 1994 as he pursued a career in organizational research and change. After a chemo-induced break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales.
David Zatz has around 30 years of experience in covering Chrysler/Mopar news and history, and most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the Chrysler marque.
