Stellantis announced that it is retooling the Sterling Heights plant to build the Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger electric and range-extended pickups alongside the gasoline-powered versions. In addition, Warren Truck is being upgraded to make “electrified” (probably hybrid) Jeep Wagoneers, and Dundee is being set up to make battery trays and beams.
The Ram 1500 REV was unveiled in 2023 and is still scheduled to be released late this year. The Ramcharger, which uses a gasoline engine to generate electricity for the motors in addition to battery storage, is to start production in 2025. The company claimed that Ram 1500 REV was the first vehicle to use the STLA Frame architecture, which is meant for full-sized body-on-frame electric vehicles.
The REV is still said to have 500 miles of range with its optional larger battery pack, or 350 miles with its standard pack. The Ramcharger has a much smaller battery pack but also includes a 130 kW generator; it can be used to charge another vehicle or return power to the grid. The Ramcharger is rated at 663 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, close to the original Hellcat V8, and has a claimed 4-second 0-60 mph time. It is rated at 14,000 pounds of towing.
