Rental company Hertz is making a big deal of its new Jeep Wrangler 4xe rental cars with “open-air freedom,” available for rent in “major cities across the country.” It goes beyond ads and press releases, and to Jeep Ducking, where Wrangler owners put a rubber duck onto another Wrangler to show appreciation of their particular car.
Hertz renters who find a Hertz-Jeep rubber duck in their rental can get more discounts and free upgrades for future rentals.
Jeep owners developed traditions like ducking and the Jeep Wave when there were relatively few “civilian Jeeps” (CJs) on the road, and continued as the CJ’s latest generation took on the name Wrangler.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest, most comprehensive Mopar site in 1994 as he pursued a career in organizational research and change. After a chemo-induced break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales.
David Zatz has around 30 years of experience in covering Chrysler/Mopar news and history, and most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the Chrysler marque.
