Jeep’s made a quarter million 4xe Wranglers

Jeep has made a quarter million 4xe versions of the Wrangler 4xe, according to today’s company release.

The 4xe, which combines two electric motors, a turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, and a battery pack, provides 21 miles of all-electric running, which means it can be used as an electric car by many commuters—but also has “unlimited” range when burning gasoline. Its EPA ratings are slightly better than the base V6, but acceleration is far stronger.

Stellantis praised the 250,000th Wrangler 4xe as “a significant milestone” for the Toledo plant and for the corporate “multi-energy product offensive.” The company also sells a similar 4xe system in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, a completely different V6-based PHEV setup in the Pacifica minivan, a completely different PHEV setup in the Hornet R/T, and, soon, after completely different serial-hybrid system capable of running on battery or gasoline in the Ramcharger pickup.  A 4xe version of the Gladiator pickup has long been rumored, as well.
