This morning, Stellantis announced two big pieces of information. First, Tim Kuniskis has been promoted to Head of American brands and North America marketing and retail strategy. Second, the Street and Racing Technology division is being reassembled, suggesting that we might be in store for another era of truly high performance vehicles from the Chrysler Group brands.
Tim Kuniskis retired from Stellantis last summer, after helping Dodge grow into a leading name in American performance community, but he returned to the company late last year to run the Ram Trucks brand.
“Connecting with our customers, delivering the products and experiences they want, is critical to reaching our full potential,” said Antonio Filosa, Stellantis CEO. “Tim has proven time and time again that he is masterful at building brands that reach the heart and soul of the customer. We will leverage his energy, his strategic mindset and his competitive spirit to supercharge all our brand activities.”
It seems that one of Kuniskis’ first moves is to reestablish the Street and Racing Technology division that engineered all of the company’s most popular performance vehicles over the past 20 years or so. Needless to say, many people hope that the return of the SRT division will lead to the return of more Hemi-powered performance vehicles across all of the American brands.
“We’re getting the band back together,” said Kuniskis. “SRT is another box we needed to check as we head into a product launch cadence enabling more performance than we’ve ever seen before. We’re working with our product development and technology organization to select the best engineers in powertrain and vehicle dynamics to build a team worthy of the SRT name.”
The return of the SRT division was announced across social media with the video below.
