With its stale product line soon to be updated by a refreshed Model Y, Tesla has remained the biggest seller, by far, of electric cars in North America and Europe. However, its leader’s political moves in the United States, Germany, and United Kingdom have led many to seek options—which Stellantis now has.
In the month electric Chargers started showing up at dealerships, Tesla sales fell by 12% in the UK, 63% in France, 44% in Sweden, 38% in Norway, and 42% in the Netherlands. In California, Tesla sales fell by just 12%. In the United Kingdom, Tesla’s sales rank fell from #2 to #7, behind Peugeot.
Until recently, Stellantis, which does sell numerous electric cars in Europe, left the United States and Canada to other EV makers. The Charger started selling late in 2024 and the Wagoneer S is coming next, to be followed by the Jeep Recon and Ram 1500 Ramcharger serial-hybrid. Hyundai and General Motors sell a fairly wide range of battery-electric cars and SUV.

He most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the marque.
