Four-time National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) world champion Matt Hagan is on a path to his fifth title, after his 54th NHRA Funny Car win at the NHRA Midwest Nationals.
Hagan drives a “Dodge//SRT Hellcat” for Tony Stewart Racing (TSR), and had a 0.040 second reaction time against Jack Bechman in his final round, winning with a 3.979 second quarter mile which beat Bechman’s 4.032 seconds. Hagan ran under 4.0 seconds in all four elimination rounds.
His teammate Tony Stewart did not fare as well, losing in eliminations, but he remains fourth in points for the Top Fuel class.
The next event is the NHRA Fallnationals near Dallas on October 10-12.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest Mopar site (Allpar) in 1994. After a chemo-induced 2007-2010 break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales (Chrysler history and “permanent” car and truck pages). He most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the marque.
