Dodge Hellcat Production Totals for the 2020 Model Year

Based on information posted online, the Dodge brand produced 6,543 Challengers and Chargers with the supercharged Hellcat Hemi during the course of the 2020 model year. This figure does not come from FCA but rather, an inside source who has responsible for all in-depth Hellcat production numbers over the past five years. In other words, these are not official numbers from the automaker, but since FCA does not issue a breakdown by model, these are the best numbers that we have.

Also, a source within FCA who prefers to remain anonymous has told me in the past that these tables “appear to be accurate”, so over the past five years, the mysterious man who goes by “PLMCRZY” on internet message boards has been the source when I’ve discussed Hellcat production numbers. They are not official, but they are the best available and I believe them to be accurate enough to discuss.

That being said, production numbers for the Dodge Hellcat cars were down in 2020, due mostly to the impact of Covid-19. The Brampton Assembly Plant where both cars are made was forced to shutdown due to the pandemic, causing an inventory shortage of both Mopar muscle cars. On top of that, many dealerships were closed for a while and those that were open were faced with local communities plagued by layoffs. However, the Dodge brand produced more than 6,500 vehicles with at least 707 horsepower.

2020 Hellcat Charger Production Numbers

First up, we will discuss the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. As you may know, the Charger Hellcat transitioned strictly to a widebody design for the 2020 model year, causing the base price of the supercharged sedan to rise. Fortunately, that didn’t have too much of a negative impact, as Dodge actually sold more Hellcat Chargers in 2020 than 2019.

2020 Dodge Charger

Dodge built 2,160 examples of the “standard” Hellcat Charger along with another 504 examples of the limited Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition for a total of 2,664 supercharged sedans. In 2019, Dodge built just 2,285 Hellcat sedans, so the shift to the widebody design appears to have paid off nicely. Not everyone loves the widebody look, but it was popular enough to exceed production of the standard-width body in 2019 by nearly 17%. In fact, the only model year with higher Charger Hellcat production was 2016, in which 4,025 supercharged sedans were built, but the year in which the widebody became standard, the 707-horsepower sedan posted its second-best production year. Also, with 2,160 units built for 2020, the Charger Hellcat Widebody was the most-produced supercharged model from FCA for 2020.

In total, since the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat was introduced for the 2015 model year, the company has produced 14,059 examples of the worst’s fastest sedan.

The 2020 Dodge Challenger was offered in five different trim lines with the supercharged Hemi, including the original Hellcat, the Hellcat widebody, the Hellcat Redeye, the Hellcat Redeye Widebody and the Super Stock. Those five trim levels accounted for total sales of 3,879 Challengers produced for the 2020 model year, down sharply from 2019.

2020 Dodge Challenger

The most popular supercharged Challenger for the 2020 production run was the Hellcat Redeye Widebody, with 1,448 units while the standard-width, 717-horsepower Hellcat Challenger was second in line with 1,103 units produced. The Hellcat Widebody was third with 747 units produced, followed by the Hellcat Redeye in standard-width form at just 358 units.

2018 Dodge Demon

The rarest supercharged Challenger for the 2020 model year production run was the new SRT Super Stock. Due to a very short production run at the end of the model year, only 192 examples were made, but the Super Stock will be a full-run production model for 2021.

Since the introduction of the Hellcat engine back in late-2014, Dodge has produced a total of 39,421 supercharged Challengers. That includes all of the models mentioned above, as well as the 2018 Demon.

Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat

When coupled with the Chargers, Dodge has produced 53,480 supercharged cars for the 2015 through 2020 model years. If we assume a very conservative average selling price of just $70,000, FCA will have brought in $3.744 billion in cash receipts from just the Dodge Hellcat cars once the units produced have been sold.
