STLA replacing Opel Grandland with BEV

Stellantis is investing €130 million into upgrades to its Eisenach Assembly Plant in Germany to make an electric successor to the Opel Grandland crossover. It will launch in the second half of 2024, part of the push to make Opel’s lineup completely electric-powered by 2028.

Europe is shifting to electric cars rapidly, as automakers shift from diesel to PHEV and full-electric power—the result of authorities closing loopholes that allowed diesels to pollute far more than originally thought. Last month, BEVs were 12% of European sales while hybrids were around 26% of sales; gasoline was the top choice with a 37% share. However, electrified powertrains are rapidly growing in share with a 40% increase in BEV registrations (over February 2022) and a 22% increase in hybrids.
