According to an interview in Automotive News, Alfa Romeo has announced new plans to focus on what it has traditionally been known for—smaller sporty cars—and stop trying to become Stellantis’ Swiss Army Knife of high-priced cars. The first result of that decision is dropping plans to do a large SUV.

Instead of a new Giulia and Stelvio, the company will keep making the current ones through the end of 2027, bringing back their top Quadrifoglio variants in mid-2026. The focus will be on small, compact, and midsize cars—the Junior, Tonale, Giulia, and Stelvio. The latter, when they are replaced, will reportedly be on STLA Large, while Junior and Tonale will move to Medium once that platform has been further developed. The Quadrifoglio editions, with their 513-hp V6 engines, may or may not reach the United States.
This may be good news for other Stellantis marques, as Maserati is likely to be given any work already done on a large Alfa Romeo SUV, and it will leave more room for Dodge in the United States.

David Zatz started what was to become the world’s biggest Mopar site (Allpar) in 1994. After a chemo-induced 2007-2010 break, during which he wrote car books covering Vipers, minivans, and Jeeps, he returned with Patrick Rall to create StellPower.com for daily news, and to set up MoTales for mo’ tales (Chrysler history and “permanent” car and truck pages). He most recently wrote Century of Chrysler, a 100-year retrospective on the marque.
