Compass moving North; Unifor approved STLA contract

60% of Unifor members voted for the proposed contract with Stellantis, which means that it has been ratified. The company has invested $12.6 billion (CAD) in the country since 2010, is the largest producer of vehicles made in Canada, and has almost twice as many represented workers as any of the former Big Three.

The agreement will add jobs to all three Canadian plants. Windsor keeps Pacifica, and will add STLA Large including PHEV and battery versions. This is expected to bring three shifts back, and costs nearly $2 billion CAD. Brampton will make the Jeep Compass for the first time, moving it from Mexico, along with other vehicles on STLA Medium.  This is the first known announcement of the Jeep Compass being made in Brampton; it also makes it clear that Brampton is shifting to Medium while Windsor has been known to be making Large.

Finally, Etobicoke Casting, which many thought would lose product, is being kept in production using existing equipment and space, but will move into making battery tray cast beams.
