Jeep Grand Cherokees get top IIHS rating

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an insurance industry lab which tests vehicles for safety, has given the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L its highest rating, Top Safety Pick+.

The standard automatic emergency braking, which includes pedestrian detection, was rated advanced in the daytime and superior, the highest rating, at night.

For headlights, the Grand Cherokee with high-beam assist was rated “good,” the highest headlight rating.  The highest possible rating was also given for small-overlap front impacts on both sides, moderate overlap front impacts (original test), and side impact (updated test).

The Top Safety Pick+ rating requires an acceptable or good grade in lighting on all trims. The premium LED reflect headlamps achieved an acceptable rating, moving to good with high-beam assist.

Optional features include intersection collision assistance, which detects vehicles moving on the other road of a crossroad; and drowsy driver detection, which tracks drowsiness based on driving inputs.
