As part of union negotiations, Stellantis provided details on when the Wrangler and Gladiator would finally be renewed. The Wrangler has been on a ten-year replacement cycle, though Ford Bronco and the upcoming Volkswagen Scout may eventually challenge that.
The Gladiator is to be updated this year, unsurprisingly, since the 2024 Wrangler has already been unveiled. However, the PHEV versions of both off-road vehicles is being upgraded in calendar-year 2025.
The next generation Jeep Wrangler, coded J70, will launch in calendar year 2028. The Wrangler will have a gasoline version, but also two electric variants—one with all-battery power, and one with batteries and a range extending gasoline engine. The “REPB” version mainly relies on battery power, but when the batteries run out, a gasoline generator kicks in to recharge them. The advantage of this setup, other than simplicity, is that the generator can run at a constant speed where it is most efficient and generates the least pollution.
What about this new 2.0 to be launched this year? Is it going into Wrangler/Gladiator? We know the Pentastar is hanging around, but for what vehicles? Is the Pentastar gonna be for Van’s only after 2024? The reason I’m asking all of this is because I would like to see a revised 2.0 pushing out say 300 hp and 325 lb-ft to replace the Pentastar in the Wrangler/Gladiator.

Personally I’m still wondering if the “new 2.0” is really different from the old 2.0, but if it is, I think it will be launched in 2024. Pentastar is sticking around for Ram 1500 base engines and for Ramcharger.
