Ford has found yet another way to cause car fires with the 2024 Maverick; the company is recalling just 217 Mavericks because the gas tanks have an open pinch joint, allowing fuel leaks. Owners are supposed to immediately park and cut the engine if a fuel leak is detected, which can be indicated by the Check Engine light (“malfunction indicator lamp”). 2020 Explorers are also being recalled for not showing rear view camera images, and 2023-24 Broncos because the child safety locks may not work.
Genesis joined Ford in the fire arena, recalling various years of its cars for engine bay fires due to oil leaks.
Jeep has one recall for the month: the 2016 Wrangler’s airbag may not deploy due to a clockspring failure. Just 1,831 right-hand-drive Wranglers sold in the US (likely for use by the post) are subject to the problem.
The only other passenger-car recalls last week were for Teslas, whose entire pre-Cybertruck product range had muted pedestrian warning sounds (with varying years); the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace, with high-voltage battery overheating; and 2023 Honda Passports and Ridgelines, for improperly secured ball joints in the steering box.
