Early updates: What’s new with the 2023 Wrangler

Today, around six weeks before the normal release, Jeep unexpectedly dumped its list of updates for the 2023 Wrangler.

In essence, there are a couple of color changes (Earl replaces Snazzberry and Reign is new), an American flag decal on each front fender, new 17-inch wheels on Rubicon, and a limited-time Wrangler Freedom edition. The latter has “capability enhancements,” military-themed cues, an Oscar Mike badge on the rear gate, a flag decal, rock rails, and a steel front bumper.

The lineup remains Sport, Sport S, Sahara*, Rubicon, and Rubicon 392*. The Sahara and Rubicon 392 are * four-door only. The full list of paint colors is black, white, Earl (gray with overtones), Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Reign (purple), Sarge Green, Silver Zynith, and the Corvette-sounding Sting Gray. Interior colors are more limited—black, black with Dark Saddle, and Heritage Tan.

The Wrangler Freedom is not available with the 4xe setup. The popular (around 20% of sales) Wrangler 4xe has a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder along with dual electric motors, providing 49 MPGe, instant torque, nearly silent off-road capability, and 21 miles of all electric running. It is available only in two trims, Sahara and Rubicon, both in four-door form only.
